Dear Madhubhai,

It gives me immense pleasure to know that under your leadership OAI has decided to join the Ostomy world by celebrating World Ostomy Day (WOD) in Mumbai, India on October 6th 2012.

My congratulations to all of you in OAI and those participating in this great and important event in the Ostomy world.

As you all know that theme for this WOD is “ Let us be heard”.
The aim of World Ostomy Day is to improve the rehabilitation of ostomates worldwide by bringing to the attention of the general public and the global community the needs and aspirations of ostomates by letting people know about

  • The life situation of ostomates
  • The contributions of Ostomy Associations and Ostomy Professionals
  • The value of the multidisciplinary approach in ostomy care

This is done through
Educational programs, seminars, support meetings and demonstrations
Electronic information network, newspaper and magazine announcements ,advertisements and articles
Publication of informative handout materials and brochures
Audio and video-tape public service announcements and films
Personal visits and lobbying activities; official government proclamations and joint activities with allied agencies and professional Health Associations.

Blood, poop and tears ... and rising above it.

I say this with the utmost respect. The fact that you put yourself out there and talk about a lot of taboo issues with humour and intelligence is wonderful and inspiring. I personally believe that part of healing is not being mentally consumed by a condition. Clearly you are taking control OVER the disease as much as you can but still, I have to wonder if you can move post ibd, cancer and other significant cases. MANY people have their own issues too. I have several very close family members who have been near death and clawed their way back. I would do my best to think of myself as healthy and well and not diseased and uncured. (Anonymous)
