The “Ostomate, IBD and Corum Seminar & Gathering 2025” held on Saturday, 6 September 2025, at Summit Hotel, Subang Jaya. The event is organised by M&T Network Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd, in conjunction with the 7th Malaysian Enterostomal Therapy Nursing Education Programme (METNEP). Malaysian Ostomy Association (MOsA) been part of the events to lending our support to further enrich and strengthen the programme.

A Gathering with Purpose

This meaningful gathering aims to bring and unite together healthcare professionals, patients, caregivers, and advocates for a day of knowledge sharing, create an open discussion, and build network support. The seminar will feature leading medical specialists, certified therapy nurses, and patient representatives, creating a balanced platform where both professional expertise and lived experiences are equally valued.

1. Access to Reliable Information

Seminars conducted by medical specialists will provide deeper insights into creation of stoma, stoma care, disease management, as well as the latest research findings and technological advancements Participants also managed to gain the latest updates on ostomy and wound care  products, practical tips for daily management of stoma, as well as dietary guidance for improved wellbeing. Furthermore, family members will also benefit by learning effective caregiving approaches, thereby helping to ease the challenges often experienced by caregivers.

In addition, patients visited exhibition booths hosted by various ostomy product suppliers like Coloplast, Convatec, and Hollister. These sessions will provide the opportunity to engage directly with industry representatives, explore a range of available products in markets, and obtain complimentary samples for trial.

2. Emotional Support and Healing

One of the core strengths of this gathering lies in fostering meaningful connections. Patients able to meet others who share similar journeys, exchange personal experiences of resilience, and develop a sense of belonging that enhances both mental and emotional wellbeing. To  encourage interaction, several engaging activities and games have been organised, allowing patients to participate actively, get to know new patients, and build lasting bonds of friendship and support between each other. Through these exchanges, patients are also able to share knowledge and inspire one another with stories that bring motivation to their daily lives.

 

3. Reducing Stigma and Building Confidence

The event provides an open and supportive platform that helps normalise conversations about ostomates, IBD and colon cancer diseases. By knowing they are not alone in their experiences, it helps patients feel more confident in their social, work, and family life. At the same time, patients and caregivers benefit from the platform by learning how to communicate more openly, voice their concerns, and strengthen their ability to provide emotional and practical support.

4. Free Access for Patients

To make the event more inclusive, all ostomates can join free of charge. This effort helps remove financial barriers and shows that patients are the main focus of the gathering. MOsA also gives free lifetime membership to new ostomates, so they can easily join the support group without any difficulties.”

With the great support of partners including “Malaysian Society of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses (MSWOCN), Convatec, Hollister, and Coloplast, the event underscores a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for ostomates and IBD and colon cancer patients across Malaysia through education, empowerment, and empathy.

This gathering is not only about managing health conditions, but also a celebration of ]dignity and a tribute to the courage and strength shown every day by patients and their families.
