World Ostomy Day Celebrations

Every three years on the first Saturday of October, people worldwide come together to celebrate World Ostomy Day. It is a day  to raise awareness, break stigmas, and empower those living with a stoma to lead fulfilling lives.

Prof. Gerhard Englert, then President of the IOA conceptualized World Ostomy Day which began in 1993

During intervals people celebrate it as Ostomy Awareness Day yet this time with no worldwide theme but still with the purpose of improving the quality of life of ostomates aroud the world.

  • Education & Advocacy – Celebrating World Ostomy Day is a great way to help educate the public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the needs and rights of ostomy patients. By advocating for essential supplies and support services for ostomates, we can begin to improve healthcare and ostomy-related issues.
